im trying to find any info on my grandfather who was in the royal sussex regiment army number G4118 but with no look at all anything would be great if anyone knows anything would be wonderful its mainly for my mum ( its her father)and a family member had photos but all been lost when she passed away been on ancestry but can only find a little
Hi Paula Welcome Royal Sussex Regt numbers for WW2 were : Royal Sussex Regiment 6390001 - 6446000 Can I suggest you provide as much information as you can - also to trace someone's military history it is vital to begin with his/her service records and the link to the forms you need is - Request records of deceased service personnel TD
Hi, It might help if you share his name please - plus the little you’ve already discovered to possibly save members a duplication if effort. From the Regimental number I’m guessing it’s a WW1 query (especially if you say you’ve found a little on Ancestry)? Steve
Hi, Thanks for the clarification. His Regimental Number is written as G/4118. I’m attaching a copy of his medal Index Card from Ancestry - which you’ve likely seen. He was discharged in 1917 so presume there may also be a Silver War Badge record in Ancestry. Your best bet might be to post on Great War Forum where you will likely find a Sussex Regiment expert. If I remember correctly the Sussex Regiment Enlistment books are still available (at Sussex Records Office?). Great War Forum Good Luck Steve
Paula, His Pension documents and Silver War Badge entitlement are on the Ancestry Site. Have you found these already? Regards Bruneval
Hi, Paula followed our advice and has joined GWF where members have provided links to the service record. He served initially 2nd Royal Sussex and latterly 7th Battalion. Wounded twice he was discharged with SWB. Steve
bruneval yes i think i have those from ancestry maybe i was thinking too hard would love to find any photos aswell but think thats asking too much lol
