From evidence from the Canadian Virtual War Memorial it seems as though he was originally buried in England at Chalford Tabernacle Graveyard, Gloucester, but his body was repatriated to Mount Calvary Cemetery. Therefore the headstone must predate the repatriation
Chris, is this to find people who should be on the register and aren't or on those already on the register, or both? Interesting stuff as I had never heard of the Maidenhead Register.
Paul This is the description of the register at CWGC:- Cemetery: THE MAIDENHEAD REGISTER Country: United Kingdom Locality: Berkshire Historical Information: Those named within the Maidenhead Register were all non-Commonwealth foreign nationals who died serving as members of Commonwealth Forces. Their remains were removed to their home countries and are presently commemorated solely by their database record and register entry. The register is maintained at C.W.G.C. Head Office, Maidenhead. No. of Identified Casualties: 194
Paul Cannot really comment on how long the register has been in existence as I only stumbled on it by accident. Thought it was worth tracking down their graves because as it stands at the moment the register is their only commemoration. However I think in time when all leads on finding their graves have been exhausted then they will be added to their relevant service memorial. Chris Sorry about the late reply as I have been too attentive to the forums over Xmas

I seem to recall a thread on PPRuNe regarding a Greek fighter pilot who was killed when his Typhoon/Tempest was shot down late 1944. IIRC the discussion led to the info that his body had been repatriated. Something about him being one of the Greek top scorers. I'll try to find it in case it's in need of correction too....
