My grandad was in RE IWT 980 Coy that was in Burma in 1945. It was the Heavy workshop company. He was a barge engineer. I was wondering what that usually entailed was it just maintenance, building barges, or did he shadow troops as support and go down river down the Chindwin ? Pretty sure that they spent some time in Kalewa. I'm awaking National Archives to reopen to get a copy of the war diary for that company for that period.

Thank you, I went a couple weeks ago and looked at the diaries they were very interesting. They were based in Kalewa Mar-June 1945 then left to go further south to Prome on July 1st. Cheers
