A relative of the missus was in the 28th Field Regt RA,he was captured and later died of his wounds as a POW after the Battle of Gazala. On his Will document after his rank appears (M/M).What does this signify?I assume that POWs were listed somewhere by some Organisation?Possibly the IRC,if so where would one look for POW information?
Hi, Could it be M M - abbreviation fir Military Medal? His details will likely be recorded on Findmypast official War Department casualty list database. Here is the link to apply to ICRC for details of any information held there - Requests for information about people held during Spanish Civil War or Second World War: Quarterly limit reached Good Luck Steve
In that case perhaps he was one of the unit maintenance/repair team (pre REME) and it is an abbreviation for Master Mechanic? Steve
