I took these at former RAF Bentwaters Thursday 04-10-2018. This airfield opened in April 1944 but wasn't really needed. It wasn't until July of that year that a B17 had to use the runway for an emergency landing, then Mustangs also used the runway for various reasons. By December 1st the base became home to RAF Mustangs their job being to escort RAF bombers doing daylight raids. All this stopped on 4th May 1945.
