G'day, Can anyone tell me what the officer's version of the British Army's AB64 Pay Book was please? Cheers
Not sure he would have one. He would be expected to have a bank account into which his salary could be paid
There is one. I've seen one. But I just can't remember what it's called. I've tried a Google search but nothing. Cheers.
Not an exact alternative but the closest equivalent is the AB439 Officers Record of Service Book (Army Book 439)
Bear in mind the AB64 is a record of service as well as pay book, so while officers had bank accounts they still needed a record or service. On the Bank Account theme a veteran I knew went with 3 others to a War Office Selection Board and while there they were asked for their bank accounts, 2 had them 2 didn't, the 2 that didn't got dropped at that point, the opinion of the veteran was that the thought was Gentlemen had bank accounts so they weren't Gentlemen so not suitable officers (no idea if his opinion was right)
Accounts I have seen suggest that newly commissioned officers were instructed to open accounts and this started in WW1 when after 1916 the majority of new officers were initially enlisted as privates. This appears coincident with the introduction of a uniform payment for new officers (and presumably the need for somewhere to pay it into)
