First set of Guard duties for Pte Joseph Allan Westwick ,one of two soldiers who fell into the River Tyne on Feb 16th 1941 whilst on guard duty on the River jetty his body was recovered three days later using a grappling hook by firemen and River Tyne Police launch. The other soldier who was saved was Pte Clive Hagan . The coroner recorded "The boy died not only in the service of his employers but in the service of his country."
