My Father served in. G Battery ( Mercers Troop) 5 RHA
He was called up in Oct 1940 ,went to N Africa May 1942,Italy 1943 came back to Uk landed Normandy on day 2 D Day.
Ended up in Germany till 1946 then returned UK for demob in 1946
It has been suggested that he should also have earned a Defence Medal is this correct and if so can it still be claimed?

From the dates you have given it doesn't look to me as though he qualified for Defence Medal as under 3 years in UK.
Full criteria are here, so you can check whether he qualified as being overseas in a non-operational area.

    Hi,

Defence Medal entitlement is difficult to determine but if I was you I’d apply to MOD via this link -

Apply for a veterans badge or a medal

He may have earned it cumulatively through his presence in various “non operational” locations.

As part of the enquiry Medal Office will retrieve his service papers from Glasgow.

    Good Luck

    Steve
