Mind boggling opportunity as I see it, not sure how high I could go on it so mentioning it here; D DAY Original BIGOT MAPS & PLANS X10 + MAP HQ BOARD on eBay, also Field Gear, World War II 1939-1945, Militaria, Collectables (end time 31-Jan-09 16:10:39 GMT)
Nice map Brian. I'd also love to hear that recording you've got of the church bells ringing. Is there anyway for you to put it on the forum for us all to hear?
Hi Marcus, Sorry mate, the tape is it the house somewhere, I found a commando knife and some old photo's, but the tape? The original tape is pretty grotty and I doubt that it would make sense. But I will ask the better half if she knows where it is? sapper
I found thetape. Going to try to listen on an old tape radio,Its a little goldmine! It has live recordings of the landing of the paras at 21 hours on D day. The first Spitfire take off from an airstrip. The fire from Colombelles. From a bomber on the raid on Caen. Land bombing of Caen. Entry into Caen. The french singing their anthem as their city was made free. and the sound of the bells of Hermanville chirch on D day. Plus War time record of "Jatendrai" The gunfire..... I cannot find the church bells as they are today...Sorry! Sat here listening to yesterday Big lump in my throat! Sapper
Sounds like a nice recording mate. I was hoping someone on here could have given you a few pointers as to how to put it on your PC then attach it on the forum. I'm no good a puters in that sense. They always crash on me. ha.
You could probably get it transfered on to a digital format at a local photo shop (DVD) then transfer it to PC then upload to You tube and post a link. There's probably a easier way though Cheers Andy
Sorry Lads its all beyond me mates! And of course it is very old and some parts of it are quite indistinct. Some through shelling, and some though bad recording. Not surprising 64 years ago, and under fire conditions. You have to put up with some stages are they cannot be understood Sapper
