Walked into my sister in laws house yesterday and passed comment on a set of medals that were on display.

Turns out that her partners grandad was an Airborne Engineer called Joseph Stanley Lonorgan.

The family details get a bit sketchy after that, so I've advised to send off for for details.

Does anyone happen to have any details/matches in the mean time while they get sorted?

They *believe* there was mention of Merville Battery, a transfer to an Armoured unit later on and the liberation of Bergen-Belsen.

    Any leads much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Mongo,

The Engineers assigned to the 9th Parachute Battalion for the assault on the Merville Battery came from the 591 (Antrim) Parachute Squadron, RE. The most comprehensive site dedicated to them is here:

591 Antrim Parachute Squadron Home Page

The only name listed in the RoH (WW2 and postwar) that is somewhat similar is Sergeant J. Lenagan. A search on ParaData produces results for "Lenegan" and "Lonergan" (both postwar), but nothing for "Lonorgan".

    Regards ...
