It was only the other day that I asked one of the Mods where the "Member's Birthdays" could be found and before I could get a reply I found them listed today on the FORUMS page.

I couldn't help spotting that CossackDon is listed as being 108 years old today.
    (See attached pic)

Now there are two options here, either this is down to a mistake when CossackDon first registered his birthdate or the gentleman in question is regrettably "no longer with us".

Either way it poses a problem

Do we need to set up some sort of arrangement to cater for this type of announcement ?

Purely for the record, when I personally am no longer around to amuse or annoy you I trust that one of my kids will notify you so that I don't subsequently show up as being "Ron Goldstein 125"

    Tongue strictly in cheek

    Ron,

Ron you make a valid Point.

    No Posts and joined 2007.

Makes 102 years old when he joined!

It would make sense to leave ones Forum Passwords etc in a sealed envelope, only to be opened when you know when.

Perhaps I am being a bit morbid but Rons post Highlights a possible difficulty in communicating to the Forum that a member has

    passed away.

I think I now Need a drink as I am Feeling depressed.

I never give my proper birthday when signing up for forums.
I think on GWF I chose a date in August 1914.

I'm sure we'll soon learn about it if you pop your cloggs Ron.
You'll be emailing us from the 'other side' & then we can amend your profile.

    ;)

You may, or may not, be relieved to know I have no immediate plans to go anywhere, in fact, if I can't take my computer, I'm not going anyway ;)

My younger daughter Ashley is a registered member and I have told her that if something happens to me to let the forum know.

Not morbid - Just makes good sense I think.

    Hi Geoff

Definitely makes very good sense. I have very recently learned on the other Forum of the death of an Australian member with whom I had quite a lot of off Forum contact until about a year ago. I really am very saddened by the news and am very thankful that someone advised the Forum.

I was so brief the other day in just saying 'hope you are well' in thanking you for your post re Fromelles. I was finding it all a bit depressing and it was good to read your post.

It is really great to hear how well your project is progressing. Fantastic work.

I've actually only just started logging into WW2 talk regularly. I have no idea now as to why I registered some years ago as kookaburra, but I do note that I have been 'outed' as judy7007.! It makes good sense.

I may soon begin to investigate more about my late father's service in 10 squadron RAAF in WW2. I have actually just requested for his service record to be digitised and all is under way.

    very best wishes

    Judy

I really don't know, Cossacks have a reputation for longevity that should not be disregarded.

By the way, are you aware of the Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Sultan? I know I'm off-topic as Zaporozhia is on the Dnieper, not the Don, but once you've seen a Cossack you've seen them all. You can read the Sultan / Cossacks letter exchange here. :D

Why is that all of a sudden we are getting members changing allegiance? Noted a few lately, myself included.

One could try to ICQ him, he lists an ICQ number :)

As for the password thing and notification, I use a program called Roboform (http://www.roboform.com) which is a form/password manager. Costs $10-$20 a year. Basically what it does is saves the website address and your userid/password for the site. The first time you visit and register it prompts you to save the info and name the record. The next time you visit the site it shows a button with the sites name (you name it) and all you do is click the button and the program fills in your userid and password and you log in.
The userid/password information is stored encrypted on your disk, and the access to the storage area is protected with a main program password. Like the browser "save info for this site" tool but much more robust.

You can also install the Iphone/Android app and all your passwords are synced to them from your PC via Roboform Everywhere allowing you to get them whenever needed.

Basically as long as I remember the main program password I have access to all my passwords and userid's. I can also scroll through the stored items, find the one I'm looking for, click it and it will fill in the URL and then log me in. Also allows you to store an identity (Name, address, email etc) and you can lick on the identity and it will fill in web forms for you.

All I ever need to remember is my one main password and I'm good, no more "which bl**dy password goes here" stuff. Been using it for about 10 years now and works like a charm. As an internet Security geek in my earlier career I recommend this app to everyone.

All my kid's need to know is my Roboform userid and one main password and they have all my passwords/userid's for everything. As my ability to recall what I just ate 10 minutes ago declines I'm sure glad I don't need to remember more than 1 password, worth a look :)
