Glad you found the pages of interest. It's probably the most accurate acount you will read on what they were doing in 1944.

Unfortunately the host (Imageshack) has shrunk a lot of the images I have posted for some reason.

Wonderful Wonderful Drew! absolutely wonderful. I knew all those men of the 1944 vintage. bless them, Even after all these years. I still recall them. My best mate Jock Mather's. I Tried to contact his family but the close family had died out......
I query the date of Jocks death for he was killed alongside me .Does this date signify when they buried him rather than when he died? Not that it matters let the dead rest in peace ...Bless Him..

    Great Work Drew. Great!

    Hello,

I picked up some old negatives of R/E's a few years ago and one is of a J.W. Peet. I wonder if it is the same chap in the list.

  5. Just to see how those engineers chaps looked in colour, here is a couple of sappers from 246 Fd Coy RE enjoying a nice cuppa on 22 Sep 44 after the liberation of Weert in the Netherlands:

Source: search for 199647 in Home - Beeldbank WO2 - but ignore the incorrect identification as 17 Fd Coy

I have only just joined this group and notice the last comment on this threat is many years ago so this thread is possibly closed.
We have been trying to track down where and what my dad was doing on DDAY and the 2 months following. Having just received his war records found him to be with the 246 Field Co, RE. I notice many posts of images from war records, from this Unit, are no longer able to open, posted by DREWE5233. If anyone still reads this threads and knows how to get these images, or has any further info., I would be very grateful. I have read the posts and gained so much information. All such brave men. Thankyou

    Hi

I have a copy of 246 Company 1944 diary. I'm donating my fee to charity. This diary contains 123 various pages inc appendices so the cost of a donation at my 10p per page rate would be £12.30. I transfer diaries via dropbox.

You can donate via this link:

Thank you so much for your quick response. I am so interested in where my dad was and his involvement in WW2. Unfortunately he died when I was only 22. He never spoke about these years and I never asked. I knew he was a RE but I never realised how involved the sappers were and what horrendous things they must have seen and been involved in. I am more than happy to donate to your charity. [I'm not sure what drop box is but sure I will figure it out]. I have just read Jacobs story he sounds like a amazing young man.
    Thankyou again, Annetta
