I'm looking for any information on this unit that was stationed in Assam province India and drove on the Ledo Road
Welcome jaywalker, Good luck with your quest. A quick net search only gave a reference to the 1380th. http://www.indianahistory.org/library/manuscripts/collection_guides/M0783.html Somebody may have something more definitive.
Unit histories: http://www.cbi-history.com/part_vi.html The 1382nd: http://www.cbi-history.com/part_vi_1382.html
Well done Kyt. Ask the right questions and you get the right answer! Cheers Spidge - the trick is to be really sad and know things like they were generally called EPDs
A reply led me to realize I was'nt fully clear on my question. The company was located in Assam province in India and in Ledo Burma, and Bhamo Burma.
A while back I posted a question about a company's place in relation to regiment, battilion, etc. It an American outfit based in the CBI. If one knows the company how does one find the regiment, etc.?
If the company was an rifle or heavy weapons company, then it was denoted by a letter, and will be part of a regiment. All rifle companies that are part of regiments use the same letters. In other words, all regiments have a Company A, B, C, D etc usually up through M, skipping I. If all the information you have is "Company D", then you're going to need to know the the regiment as all infantry divisons had 3 of each lettered company, one per regiment. Infantry Battalions are easy to figure out. A, B, C & D companies are 1st Batt, E, F, G & H are 2nd Batt. J, K, L, & M are in 3rd Battalion of each regiment. Support companies had numbers, such as the 66th Quartermaster Company, which was part of the 66th Infantry Divison and the 91st, Quartermaster Company which was part of the...91st Infantry Division. See a pattern here? This is not a hard and fast rule as the 113th Quartermaster Company was part of the 38th Infantry Division. What are you looking for, maybe I can help?
Jayhawker, I replied to your PM and then decided to post my note to you to add the info for others to read. Found this PART VI - 1382nd EPD Company Is it of any help? Look at the other EPD unit histories here CBI UNIT HISTORIES for more clues. I have found when searching for units, you need to put in google like this 1382nd EPD, not 1382 EPD. See the difference? Try also 1382 nd. Also try spelling out Engineer Petoleum Distribution. I found this when I did. http://home.comcast.net/~cbi-theater...joe/gijoe.html Although not about the 1382nd, it may have more clues in it. I strongly doubt that they were part of a battalion but was under a larger command since they have their own unit number instead of using a letter designation. They probably fell under some area or theater command that had garrison duties and not a combat-oriented command, such as a corps or army.
