I have 2 17" bullets (?) from my dad when he was stationed in Ft. Wetherill in Jamestown, RI. They have a 12" copper base and a 5" wood head. The numbers I can read on the bottom are AG/C, lot 29. There are some other numbers but I can't make them out. Does anyone know what these are?
12'' brass case with a 5'' head is a bit large for a bullet! If the head is 1 1/2 '' wide (40mm) i would guess it is a bofors round. or it could be the rarer 2 pounder anti tank round. photos required to make a certain ID
...and a 5" wood head. Just the job to shoot at these! http://www.ww2incolor.com/d/420115-2/german+tanks
They sound like 40mm Bofors L/60 drill rounds. It would help if we knew the year that the gentleman was in the service. As an aside, can we please not use the term "Head" for the shell or projectile. The head of a round is that part of the cartridge case that surrounds the primer, hence "Headstamp". Regards TonyE
