Dam, missed it...Do you know what it was Adam?
    Disappointing

A Gormley model of the Angel of the North owned by the local authority - not the found in a junk shop by normal people item one would hope for .
Rather nice collection of Autographs including Churchill and Bomber Harris though. so there was at least some WW2 content.

It's good, but I am becoming a little more irritated at the reconstructions.
I just rarely see them and the associated dramatic interpretation as that necessary.

The Secret Diary of the Holocaust

05 Jan 2009, 22:35 on BBC One (except Northern Ireland, Scotland)

    Synopsis:

Documentary telling the extraordinary tale of a 14-year-old Polish girl, Rutka Laskier, who was murdered at Auschwitz in 1943.
In 2005, the school notebook in which Rutka recorded her last months in the ghetto of Bedzin was made public, six decades after she hid it under the floorboards of her home there. Rutka was immediately dubbed the 'Polish Anne Frank'.
In her diary, Rutka wrote about her life in the ghetto in 1943, detailing not just the Nazi atrocities, physical hardship and hunger, but also how she was developing as a young woman. She also tells how she made a daring escape from one of the early 'aktions', Nazi round-ups of Jews for transportation.
The documentary will unravel Rutka's story through the eyes of her half-sister, Israeli academic Zahava Scherz, on a journey to Poland in search of the sister she never knew.

Did you ever see the documentary shown on Channel 5 two years ago called "The Family who defied Hitler". It was about a Polish family who survived intact despite being split up. The 2 sisters told their famillies story and it was as you would expect quite amazing.

    Regards - Robert

PS - I bet your Aunt was cut off by the snow in West Kingsdown this morning. Farm tractors were having to pull cars along.

Five young friends set out for a walking trip to Kiev, but their travels are brutally interrupted when they are suddenly attacked by German planes, in the first wave of the Nazi assault on the Soviet Union. When the village itself is attacked and occupied, most of the men flee to the hills to form a guerrilla unit. The others resist the Nazis as well as possible, but soon the village is placed under the command of a Nazi doctor who begins using the town's children as a source of constant blood transfusions for wounded German soldiers. Meanwhile, the small group of young persons tries desperately to take a supply of firearms to the guerrillas.

    Also, on BBC IPlayer

BBC iPlayer - Belsen after Belsen

Historian Rainer Schulz tells the story of the former prisoners who had to remain in Belsen after the concentration camp was liberated by the British in April 1945.

For the next five years, a temporary community was contructed there: people who had lost everything married again, started new families and many dreamed of starting a new life in Israel. Emerging from the shadows of its ghastly origins, Belsen became an unlikely centre of Jewish regeneration, resistance and hope for its survivors.
