Remembrance Sunday

Would he understand that no woman or man wants war.

I'd disagree with that statement myself. That has been proved incorrect through many years.

Although I disagree with his timing and the place. I support no more war...don't we all then?

I'm sure most of us would agree many died for him to be able to say what he did say. They died for that right as part of their service to us all...The word ALL matters.

As to one of the charges...Demonstrating without permission...Where exactly are we living these days.

Open to insults..I'm thick and thick skinned.

Absolutely, but for him his timing and place were "spot on" and it would seem he has no insight and no regrets.

True but I am quite sure the comrades of those who died would much rather he had kept his trap firmly shut for those two minutes, not much to ask in return from those who might potentially have been killed themselves.
Ask any of those marching if they wanted no more wars, as you rightly said who really wants to have to go to war ?

I'm glad we agree then James. As for Breach of the peace, I think the charge will more likely be one used against many, that he mentions himself, the causing harrasment and distress one. Breach of the peace is so old fashioned. Your more likely to see the harrasment and distress as a cover all for most things these days, be it political, or criminal. Or even Asbo'll.

Time marches on Ron, for good or for bad. As long as you can all go to the Cenotaph to remember family, friends and all those you never knew, you should continue to do so.

Another year has passed and on Sunday, November the 20th, 2011 I was on parade again with AJEX at the Cenotaph.

Richard Todd - the actor and soldier said I have seen actors put on a uniform and attempt play the part of a soldier, yet something is always missing, the look,the way an old serviceman carries himself. something possibly indefinable yet it is surely there.

Due to not being able to be in several places at once on Remembrance Sunday, the RBL Berlin Branch pays it's Remembrance a week later then Remembrance Sunday at the CWGC Indian Cemetery at Zehrensdorf, near Zossen, South of Berlin.

Unfortunately our Piper called in sick and was not able to attend, but a small service was held with by Indian priest.

The Mayoress, an officer of the Luftwaffe, together with a few local members of the public and the RBL members with Standard formed up and slow marched into the cemetery and assembled in front of the Stone of Honour.

I places a wreath and the Indian Priest carried out a short service before I spoke the Exhortation.

A minutes silence followed by the Kohima epitaph and then incence sticks were lit and placed at random headstones.

I have copied some information about the cemetery, which some members may find interesting and I have attached a few photographs.

Just a timely reminder that the British Legion National Remembrance Parade takes place on Sunday 11th November 2012.

All being well, I shall be on parade and will march with the AJEX contingent,which this year will be in Column D4.

I've set my video to record the ceremony and will watch the ceremony on my return home later in the day.

Finally, you will all be relieved to know that I was able to buy fresh poppies this year

I shall attend the service at the Air Forces Memorial, Runnymede.

 

Ron.We are surely getting very short onthe ground now mate...I saw very few Normandy Veterans badges on last years cenotaph march past.

Ill shall be marching with the Gallantry Medallist League, hopefully i will meet up with a couple of Chindit vets who will also be marching this year and if poss. then onto Chindit memorial after the march. It is a privilege to be able represent my great grandfather and to continue to remember the fallen.

Low attendances of ww2 veterans ?

Not surprising really.

I live in North London and yet I will still have to leave home at 07:30 am to get myself on to the parade ground at Horseguards by the recommended time of 09:00 hrs.

Let's just hope that it's not too cold and that the rain holds off !

I will be at the Festival of Remembrance the evening before, and then watching my husband and his Regiment parade down here on Remembrance Sunday, but as usual will set the tv to record so that we can watch the ceremony at the cenotaph in London when we get home.

My husband recently met a Normandy veteran at a memorial unveiling here but didn't have much of a chance to speak to him, so he's hoping he will be at the parade here next Sunday if he isn't going to London for it.

 

I will be at the CWGC Cemetery Berlin Heestrasse.

It is a little disappointing that the service will commence at 10am and finish at 1030am with just a Bugler from the Salvation Army.

Here in Berlin the Commonwealth Countries take turns to organise the Service and this year is the turn of the Australians.

We were informed No music and hymns and no piper for lament.

We then adjourn to St George's Church for another Remembrance Service starting at 11:00am.
