Just researching my grandfather Frederick Golborne who served in RAOC in North Africa, India and Burma. Leads have died with relatives and I have two photographs if anyone could comment on.

He went in as private, below picture in (I am guessing Egypt) he hold Sergeant rank and he was commissioned in India.

Welcome aboard. There is plenty of expertise here, but it helps if you can provide as much information as possible. Notably any Date of Birth, Army Number, medals and a previous home address - even if just Saffron Walden, Essex for example.

The October 1945 Army List refers on pg.103 to under:
    From: (103) - Army lists > Quarterly Army Lists (Second Series), July 1940-December 1950 > 1945 > Third quarter > Part 2 > Volume 1 - British Military lists - National Library of Scotland
Oddly his surname is prefixed with R, no others have such a prefix on a quick look.

The 14th June 1949 London Gazette has:
    From: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/38639/supplement/2942/data.pdf

A May 1952 London Gazette refers to:
    From: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/39546/supplement/2784/data.pdf

Alas it does not explain the entry on that pg., but it appears to be a tidying up as Indian Army to British Army changes appear. The previous page refers to:
The bottom two photos I think are of irregular troops, either in south Sudan, Somalia or Ethiopia. Not in North Africa.

Obviously there is a Lewis light machine gun in the foreground; most of the rifles appear to be Lee-Enfields, but the man second left front row has a different weapon. Man second row on far left appears to be carrying a dagger and has no weapon.
