    In related news:

I have stopped uploads to the gallery.
Just to give the chap doing the move a static archive to work with.
Still visible, but no additions for a month+.
It will return to normal a little post-shift, hopefully on a better platform.

On the shift: Server move will happen first, which hopefully nobody will really notice (unless the notification issue changes), then the boss will be hiring a clever chap to shift the actual software.
There will be some hefty downtime. Last time was a few days, cannot say if it'll be less or more.

Seems a good place to say that there's gonna be a bit of an attempt at fundraising soon too.
Otto's been shelling out for both sites for a long while, and it doesn't get any cheaper as things get bigger. We'll see what form a bit of voluntary help might take soonish.

I'd be happy to make a donation to help out, let us know what, where and when - we all know why......

Otto's working on some sort of funding help system. While he's doing that, all the positive vibes on that score I've read both openly and by PM are very much appreciated, chaps. (And, naturally, negative ones too! Happy to discuss.)
I'm certain we'll never be a pay site, as that doesn't really make sense to anyone (remember that historian and his WW2 pay site a while back? No... neither do I.), but the scale of things does mean we'll likely be deploying the begging bowl here and on 2F in a way we haven't before.

The techie bloke is booked for a particular date.
Will give more precise warning a week before the event (actually... must check if I'm allowed to  might be some sort of security reason to keep schtumm on exactly when the button's pushed... )
Oh, and In case anyone was concerned, the Gallery has been included in the brief. Should also be fine.
    Errr... That's it for now.

For what it's worth, please count me in on any deal you have to make to keep the forum alive.
(and please wish Otto well in his sterling work)

Just back from holiday and catching up with things.

I have no idea how much it costs to run a site like this. I am always looking for ways to spend my money and would probably have my own site if I could cope with the technology. Perhaps sponsoring a forum would work. Perhaps renting out space, I know many forum members have their own websites. Can you qualify as a charity, almost anyone seems able to do so?

Whatever is decided I would like to chip in. I add my thanks to Otto, the shy, retiring man behind the curtain.

  9. Can you tell my who I should ask about problems with a new post? I have just tried to type out a long message and the site disappeared from my radar. When I got back, the message was lost, so I decided to type it up offline using MS word. I could not get the message box to accept the "paste from Word" instruction. I eventually uploaded the Word document as a file attachment. The photographs I uploaded with it are upside down, even though they are the right way up in my files that I uploaded them from. I am sure it is operator error, but I couldn't find any instructions.

    It is coming soon.
I've seen evidence of a Xenforo license being purchased. (Though still no sign of Kahlua, Vodka... or even milk, which is all slightly disappointing.)
I've also forgotten the precise date , but it's on it's way.
    Fair warning given.
Anyone says they weren't told - there may well be a little light sarcasm.

(And always remember to hassle Owen. Doesn't have to be site related, just hassle him.)

I couldn't access the forum for a time this morning, thought the change was on its way, obviously not. Maybe I should consult Owen?

I think there's a fair chance of the odd outage over the next week, with some prep going on intermittently for the move.

But mostly, yes; always consult Owen. He loves it, and is always so polite.

It's very hard to make out through that accent, but I think he said 'Please call me on my mobile about the software shift, Adam has the number' or something, probably.
