    Good day

Like the subject line says was wondering if anyone has or knows of information on soldiers from the Polish Resettlement Corps who were stationed from April to July 1947 in No.4 ITC & 68 PTC? My great uncle was part of this formation.

The information was obtained from the kind folks at the Durham County Records office.

Thanks in advance for your help & patience
    Chris..........

The castle was later used as the Depot of the DLI till reverting to civilian ownership - I'm sure Verrieres will have a lot of info on this.

Many members of the Corps were offered assisted emigration to Commonwealth and Dominion Countries so it is worth doing a search of the WO Files at Kew and also looking at the FO files there, if your relative went to Canada th Canadian archives will almost cetainly also hold information.

I'll persue the KEW referances, thanks. Was wondering if there's any mention about these Polish soldiers within DLI records that others on this forum might know of. Am still waiting on RAF Northolt records & PISM London provided a lot of info but nothing about this event in my uncle's career. As for our Canadian archives their website is not too user friendly (last time I checked).

    Regards

    Hello Chris,

As Steven mentions, Jim (handle 'Verrieres') is your best bet for information on all things DLI. I'm sure he'll be along shortly, but PM him if he isn't!

    Best,

    Steve.

    Hello Chris,

I believe we may have spoken about this before? On my website? If not it was an identical request...I don`t remember all the details but was he presented with something whilst at Brancepeth? I`m clutching at straws now ex Polish Forces, Armoured Corps..perhaps ? Did not settle in this country? Or am I mixing this up with someone else .Tell you what give us his name and it may wake the old grey matter!!

    Best Wishes
    Jim

I'm not at my computer but yes I think we did talk via email with yourself, Chris Lawton, Liz & Norman. I was sent scans from the DLI journal in which I quoted dates. My uncle's name was Michal Krzywoszanski, he wrote 68PTC & 4ITC HQ coy on the inner cover of a book about 2 Polish Armoured Division and photo of himself.

Yes it worked out, thanks for that the plug about my uncles little write up at Historia. As a side note that write up is around 3 years old and some portions need revising & correcting due to having discovered more over the years. The one instance of having been captured in Italy didn't happan, it was a confused reminicance from a family member of another event which I've sorted out. Been meaning to contact Marco and have it revised. Hope it's of interest to some.
