Following the success with the Liverpool Naval Memorial I have now decided to search the other naval personnel who died on shore, but are listed on various naval memorials.

Here are three members of HM Submarine Saracen:

D/KX132173 Stoker 1st Class William Holt, POW, died 1 March 1944 in Uttendorf Work Camp, Austria, (a detachment of Stalag XVIIIC Markt Pongau) buried Klagenfurt War Cemetery

Sub.Lt. Roy Charlton Elliott, escaper, died 15 March 1944 after falling from a window in Vatican City whilst working for the Rome Escape Line. Buried Testaccio Protestant Cemetery Rome

P/J112731 Ldg. Tel. Victor James Crosby, escaper, shot by Germans on 12 December 1943 at Fontana Liri, Italy. Grave of unknown mariner in Cassino War Cemetery recently accepted by the MOD as being his.

In addition, two other crew members were killed on land but are remembered on UK Memorials:

The body of C/KX85490 Ldg.Stoker Thomas Henry Barber POW will never be found as he was killed in the Allerona Bridge incident on 28 Jauary 1944. He is commemorated on the Chatham Memorial.

D/SSX.29430 Tel. James Gordon Hibbert, escaper, was shot in Italy on 6 April 1944 in unknown circumstances. His body would have been buried in an unknown location. The Navy is unable to explain where the information of his date of death came from - there are two dates of death on his service record, 6 April and 6 July 1944 - or why the date 6 April was finally decided upon. He is commemorated on the Plymouth Memorial.
