In Schoutenstraat, Barneveld NL, ca.17-30 Apr 45. Dutch caption says "On the right the Venema hair salon", which looks like a pleasant enough shop (as long as their keep their 'V'...):

From the angle and shape of the driver's hatch I think this is a regular Ic, i.e. not a Ic Hybrid

Great thread. Many of those tank names only make sense if you're Canadian.

    i.e. CHINOOK

Originally the name of the Indian tribe in what is now southern Alberta, it is also a town name but more famously refers to the 'ice-eater' winds which is a dry, warm, down-slope wind that occurs in the lee side of the Rocky Mountains.

I think that the unit's history book may have actually contained a list of tank names used in the Regiment - maybe those at the end of the war. But it's one thing to read a list and another to see the actual tanks!

A good read (in Dutch) on the operations of 1st Cdn Corps in this part of Holland (aka Veluwe) is:

    md22446681762.jpg

Bevrijdingsatlas Veluwe. [Schaffelaarreeks nr. 16] by
Weerd, Evert van der, Peter A. Veldheer, Gerjan Crebolder,

It contains a lot of photographs and many detailed maps. Divisional units concerned were 49 British Division (Polar Bear), 1st Cdn Infantry Division and 5th Cdn Armoured Div and 1st Cdn Armoured Bde.
