Hi, my english is elementary. I'm an Italian journalist. I'm trying to gather useful information about World War II, precise operation on avalache. I'd be looking for information on the 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards, exactly on the British soldiers missing in Salerno. I read the book written by Christopher Bulteel, a book in which he recounts his journey from Sicily to Salerno, Capezzano (HILL 270). I am looking for relatives of the missing soldiers or relatives of Christopher. I ask you for help. My e-mail is vinc_pellegrino@libero.it. Have a nice evening

    Hi,

Christopher Bulteel died in 1999. Here is a link to one of his obituaries printed in an English
    Newspaper.

I am away from home at the moment but I will look up contact details for Coldstream Guards HQ and the Cdstream Guards Association (former soldiers group) for post them for you.

There are a number of internet references for Christopher Bulteel on the internet.

    Regards

Probably best to wait until the authorities 100% ID the chaps involved .

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have the 3 CG war diary for the period you are interested in and the Regimental Missing Men file for that period as well. Drop me a PM if you want a copy.

    Good luck

    Thanks Owen.

Wasn't aware of that background. Agree it is premature enquiry on the forum. MOD need to investigate.

Hello, thank you all for the answers. The bodies of British soldiers were found by an association of Salerno near my house on the hill 270. Were found by a group of researchers finds the Second World War. I have more photos of discovery: the first body told me that he was lying, the bones were not broken, and the second appeared to have been torn apart by a bomb. For more info please do not hesitate to ask. What interests me, as I said, are documents of those days, military maps, local newspapers. The British troops, Capezzano came from Avellino, not from the sea, after the ascent. On September 17, she was released the Apulia region, on September 22 Cristopher Burteel was Capezzano, near Salerno, even if there was the landing at Salerno September 9.
I'd love to, Mr. Jacob, get a copy of those documents.

British Army Casualty list No 1273 Dated 25 October 1943

L/Cpl Blackham is listed along with 23 of his comrades, all KIA, on 25 October 1943. The list also contains the names of 60 of the battalion wounded on the same day, 2 reported missing and 1 believed POW.

On H270 there were also Grenadier Guards. About Coldstream Guards the other soldier, Raymond Rose, was he reported missing or killed?
