Personal camo and how effective it can be has intrigued me ever since walking through some Heather parkland years ago wearing bundeswehr pea-pattern trousers and all my mates shouting "where've your legs gone?!"

Some interesting pics of the US's new 'Multicam' pattern by Propper.

    Some good comparison shots there.
I always cringed when I saw soldiers in Iraq in normal DPM.
    This stuff looks good.
Or should I say doesn't look good cos you can't see it. :)

Entry page has a kind of rolling slideshow of effective images of it:

I appreciate there's marketing involved but it does seem very effective.
(the barbed wire shot is very odd...)

I used to play paintball in the late 80s early 90s (back when weapons were affordable but the balls weren't) and we would play large hunting games in wooded acreage. I soon realized that my faded BDUs hid me far better than did the new ones. Eventually I tinged them with a khaki-colored dye-wash to lessen the effect of the whitish appearance that eventually would show after the washings. Coupled with measured steady movement, it made me difficult to spot when I was on ambush.

It's hard to imagine that it has been almost 20 years since I started playing. Time sure gets away.

Looks like a good place to link Hyperstealth's rather interesting overview of digital disruptive patterns. There's obviously an element of sales pitch but withlots of information to back it up.

As a teenager my friend and I were hunting and part of our route took us along the perimeter fence of the Bomarc missile base. A soldier in full ghillie camo stepped out from the brush with a sterling in his hand and scared the living crap out of us. My first lesson in camo. It's easy to hide, with the right colours and pattern.
