Deacs, For a first attempt it Looks great to me. Working with small scales and taking extreme Close up photos, shows up things that the eye does not always see. Keep up the good work. Regards Tom
Panther G in 1/35. tracks are not from the kit but after-market tracks in real metal that can be rusted just like the real think. They even have accurately replicated foundry serial numbers on each track. Amazing what can be achieved these days by the die cutters.
Recently built 4 1/72 for a summer WW2 exhibition at a local museum I volunteer at. A P-47, A-20, B-26 and B-17 that all flew from local bases. Not the best I could do but knocked all 4 up in about a month. Currently working on a 1/48 scale B-17 diorama with lots of aftermarket goodies. A nice summer project. Pics to follow. I;ve only done one engine so far, and that took me two days!
I have started building up a 1/6 scale M4A3 Sherman it by Dragon. I purchased it quite some time ago but only recently got around to starting it. There is no interior detail and so I decided to scratch build the turret cage and as much of the fittings that I can make. The canon breech mechanism is complete and the turret cage fabricated with metal base and plasticard. Three folding seats for commander, one for lower cage and one for upper turret, plus one for the loader, and a full seat for the gunner. I used thin leather to upholster the seats and the gunners seat sits on an armoured locker containing six ready rounds. l have started to fabricate the gearbox and will be building the front transmission bulkhead to attach the gearbox and also produce some drivers control levers. The will come the front seats on each side of the gearbox. A fun project, but unfortunately not enough time to do as much as I would like. A few photos of work in progress. My pad has no flash, but you will get the idea. The cage was placed on packing to take it to the correct height to see if there was any fouling, but all is fitting well. Three armoured lockers made from plasticard as placed on the sponson sides. Regards Tom
It's taken a lot longer after injuring my finger whilst on holiday. The nerve ends are still reconnecting but at least I can use it and didn't lose the finger to the first joint Regards Tom
This massive scale stuff sometimes tempts me back towards modelling (as I shamefacedly use my Iwata gear to clean computers etc.). Then I look at the price of it. Then I remember that it will almost certainly end up in a mate's garden receiving heavy fire from air rifles... Ho hum.
It is certainly large and will go nicely with its Sherman stablemate☺☺ Modelling is a therapeutic thing with me. Regards Tom
I do like the idea of scratchbuilding all those details at a scale I could possibly get away with. 35th Scratchbuilding a disaster for me in the past, and that turret basket looks fun.
Seem to be sorting out modelling materials again. Not gonna make a kit though. Oh no. Drifted off that. I can handle it. Just tidying up. Just needed some plastic cement, that's all. Ooh, look. An untouched Sherman Jumbo kit lurking under a half inch of attic dust...
Adam, Here is a link to a one sixth model forum I am a member and you can see the progress. VVS units in place and I have almost finished the hard bits of the driver and bow gunner positions. The bow gun position I have modified to fit a full .30 Cal on a ball unit I fabricated. Also just modified the front hatches to open and close and the periscopes to revolve instead of gluing. Seats fabricated and the Transmission casting is now glued in place. Just have to glue the gearbox in place and the seats. Having fun putting it together so far. Dragon Sherman Breech for 75 mm canon. - Page 7 I hope others may find it of interest. All plasticard and plastic profile plus the gearbox bell end I used from a plastic garden watering pistol/Rose. I use anything if it looks the part. Main gearbox is 3" diameter pvc downpipe. Regards Tom.
Joint effort between me & youngest son (12). Showing him what to do. Gets him off 'war thunder' on his laptop. Airfix Me109 Camera on phone not too good at close ups, maybe good thing.
Reminds me of the Hanley Page 0/400 I made as a teenager. Spent days studying the best painting techniques, rigging, carefully sanding it to perfection. Was the most wonderful model ever made. Then my sister angrily threw her school bag and obliterated it. Stick to 1/100 and 28mm stuff now...
This is the latest post when I finished the internal 2 inch Smoke Mortar. Dragon Sherman Breech for 75 mm canon. - Page 11
My 12 year old son has finished his models of a Spitfire & Hurricane, I helped him make a base for them featuring the White Cliffs .
