Now you have just put me back into Austria in 1945 - when the non fraternisation ban was on - we just happened to be at a local dance when that Sagbiem came up as the last waltz - great times - and peaceful
    Cheers

Dianne - the Lale Andersen version - then it was turned into the D-Day dodgers refrain
"look around the mountains in the mud and rain - see the scattered crosses - many with no name.......it goes on.....
    Cheers

Heartbreak, and toil and suffering gone
The lads beneath, they slumber on.
They are the D-Day Dodgers, who'll stay in Italy.

Oh, yeah! Some beer drinking songs would really hit the spot too! I don't think you can download from Last.fm, can you?

The title of my book is the title of a German Naval song - "On a Sailors Grave (No Roses Grow).

I heard many marching songs during my youth in occupied southwest France.
The one I remember the most of it's "Erika". The german soldiers from the camp near our house, allways sang that song on their way to the beach of Erromardie.

    German marching songs ?

I am not normally accustomed to making coarse comments but I hope I will be forgiven if I just say "a lot of bloody good it did them in the long run !"

As with the photographs of the rather-too-full-of-itself master race when they reached the French coast in 1940, I can't help thinking of the football chant "You only sing when you're winning"
