G Battery (Mercers Troop) Locations 1940.

I am trying to pin down the locations of G Battery 5 RHA when they moved to Essex (Chelmsford Area)in 1940 when they manned the GHQ line.
I have mentions of Chelmsford Drill Hall .Writtle, Great Dunmow , Little Easton ,Little Waltham and Springfield
from War Diaries but nothing more specific ,searches of village websites have been non productive.
Hylands House and Park at Writtle near Chelmsford was the centre of much military activity, is there a list of Units based there?
Their Website only mentions SAS HQ.
There are still many pill boxes that formed the GHQ line still in tact,5 RHA,HQ mentions it had 21 priority positions to man between Saffron Walden and Wickford .even before the pill boxes were built ( About 40 K as the crow flies.! )
I realise that the info I have is about as much as I will get as security at that time would discourage mention of troop movements but any pointers would be much appreciated.

 

Have you checked for war diaries? I'm sure I have G Battery's diary for France in 1940 so I'd suspect they'd be one covering when they came back.

Hi andy yes info I have is from war diaries you kindly provided.trying to tie it down to pill boxes or sections of ghq line .have tried pillbox webpages but they do not mention troops.am working way through village ww2 report's p

Royal Artillery History by Arndale called Years of Defeat 1939-41. I've just checked in and they don't get a mention after Dunkirk.

I have just restored a Mk2P 18pdr as used by 5RHA but I have been unable to find out the Vehicle Markings for the Regiment can you help

 

Rich Payne and May1940 are the vehicle marking experts on here.

 

I'm not sure that the guns were actually marked, but the tractor would have displayed the arm of service serial '10' on the red/blue RA background with white corps bar above, and usually the 3 Corps fig leaf. This Morris-Commerical in Cassel appears to display both these markings. Cassel is generally complicated though as 140 Army Field Regt from 1 Corps were also there displaying a '10' as well and
it's not always possible to see the formation sign.

Rich I also notice that both the Unit and Div/Corp markings are on the same side is that normal for 1940
