`ET Al' - Anyone have info regarding two `political' prisoners ensconed in COLDITZ ??
They were Lord Hopetoun & Maquis Linlithgow friends / acquantances of my father. I know that they were `rescued', being taken away by the German guards at end of war and finally met up with American forces in Munich area.
Any further info on these two much appreciated.

Lord Hopetoun is Charles William Hope, the son of the Marquis of Linlithgow. I don't think the two of them were both in Colditz at the same time. Your father may have become acquainted with the Marquis after the war.

Hopetoun House is the seat of the Hope family/Marquis-Earls of Linlithgow.

The link is of their home

Here is C W Hope's entry in Burkes Peerage. He became the 3rd Marquis of Linlithgow.

It's the 5th entry down the page.

TOM, ROBERT, thanks for your input.
Realise now that the two I mentioned are one & the same !!
I am also interested in Lt. ELSTOB who was ADC to the Senior Officer at one time.
I have photo's & info on those two.
Am also looking into Submariners who were in Colditz.
Where in this Forum can you suggest that I go for further info re the above.
Colditz I know is well researched, but mostly for the escapes etc.
    Lord Hopetoun was a `Prominente' !!
Elstob was a survivor of the sinking of 3 destroyers which hit mines in 1940.
There were also at least 4 submariners in Colditz & I would like info on those.

    W. Elstob, Lieut, RN, captured 3/9/40, arrived Colditz 1/9/42.

Officer List (new) | Colditz Castle Trips and History

There photographs on-line, but not of Elstob, although the page states that it is being updated.
Also a contact button, which may be of use to you.

    Smudger, thank you for that.
Had a look at the Officers List(New) - but it only goes down to the `E's ??
Then went to the Colditz site and they only give down to the `E's ???
Am I missing something - is there a way of going down to the `Z's ??
There were two CPO naval types in Colditz CPO LISTER & CPO HAMMOND
The officers were Lt. CATLOW & Lt. WHEELER all of these were `lost' submarines.
Actually Catlow was in A/C when it landed Corsica ??

    Sadsac,
The bible on Colditz is of course 'Detour' by Wood & Watton, published in 1946. I saw one on Amazon [located in Canada] for £15 not too long ago, which is what I paid for my last one about 20yrs ago! I was with Tommy Catlow in Colditz three years ago, he was very active but has now sadly passed away. There are now only six British left living, the eldest being Mickey Burn at 96yrs who was a hero of Saint Nazaire and a radio scribe in Colditz.
