    Hi Ron,

The report is headed 'Division' - I will correct the error in Post 13. Perhaps you can advise how so to do. I haven't yet found a way to edit after posting as we could do in the old format - especially necessary as I tend to miss correcting typos when previewing prior to posting from time to time.

    As ever,

    Gerry the old rascal.

It is easy to miss the "edit" option as for some peculiar reason it is "greyed out" and only shows when you run your mouse over the options you are offered bottom right of your posting, at least, this is what I have found.

Try this first and if it doesn't work for you then perhaps Owen can do the necessary.

Sorry to be a pain, but I didn't want anything spoiling your cracking report of those amazing times.

    As always,

    Best Regards

    Ron

Help please Just been trying - three times to attach the NIH Italian Battle Reports without success. This comes up:

    "NIH-Battle-Reports-Italy.mht
You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file"

What the mht is I have no idea .

    An expert assistance needed!

Trying again - maybe it is due to a new Adobe update which is now removed

Having unstalled the Adobe files thought that might do the job. Only difference mdf does not appear after "................. not pemitted"
Next attempt is to attach a short piece already in the forum

Have a look at the attached pic below.

As I said earlier, when I let my mouse hover over the options section it shows the EDIT option.

When I click on that I am able to edit my comment.

That .mht file format is a webpage archive.

I can see on edit view that 'something' has attached in post #25, but it isn't displaying, and isn't showing in my admin panel list of attachments, or as a format the site recognizes..
As far as I can tell, it has the same title as the third document in post #18.

Something odd about the file format is my best current guess.

    Thank you Adam,

The title is not the same as the one in Post 18.

Anyway, checking each of my postings with attachments I notice that in Post 1, the attachment of the 21st TB document did not get through. I am trying to resend now to wee what happens.

    Regards, Gerry

Finally managed to read your most excellent account of 21st TB's actions in Northern Italy and the various problems solved during the many battles in that area - as you know I lost great deal of interest after September 17th

at San Martino - which gave us more aggro than San Fortunato two days later while I was already snug in a clean bed at Ancona - thence Bari and Catania and getting back to Rieti in January to find the 145th RAC no more and your NIH had

taken their place - and after some rest and Base depot BS - joined the 6th AD and finished up in Austria with the 16/5th Lancers.....a long hard road and I can still taste the dust

    Cheers

    Adam,

My apologies for cluttering up the topic with my past few postings, however some have just disappeared including the 21st Tank Brigade document.

I have so much material which is on my transcribing list which I believe to be a useful addition to the War Diaries section of the forum and would like to continue so doing. The problem one with Battle Reports in Italy has been successfully sent by e-mail attatachment to my daughter and a couple of others all who have been able to download it

Anyway, and for the last time, I am attempting to attach just the front page of the Italian Battle Reports

Not a problem as I have read the front page of the NIH activities......in my view - your efforts to explain the battles of the 21st and 25th Tank Bdes in both Africa and Italy are vital in explaining to many people who do not recognise the valuable

contribution to the D Day battle in France and Germany in later times by those forces as the predominant focus as been on that short campaign - now more people might appreciate just what we went through in weakening the enemy in our

main battles......we might even learn the efforts of the forgotten 14th Army one day...

    Cheers

    Hello all,

Thank you all for your kind comments and help - greatly appreciated. It gave me the strength to completely re-do the Italian battle reports. With fingers, eyes and legs crossed tried once again to attach - eurika!
Turns out that an Adobe update linked with Microsoft Cloud prior to doing the last few pages must have caused the problem - as it was removed seems now all is well.

When I first worked on them some years ago I was disapointed how brief, less than one page, was the report of the Battle of the 'Spit' a narrow strip of land between Lake Comacchio - on some maps Comacchio Lagoon - and the Adriatric Sea. Probally not realising after we left the area, that the Commandos to clear the enemy from around the lagoon including some small islands on it.

Not that I was in it, rather because as was the Longstop Battle which brought a quick end to the Tunisian Campaign, it resulted in the speedy end of the war in Italy.

Thanks to a chap who served in the Commandos giving me material from their war diaries, including two maps, etcetera, we have a clearer picture.

    Cheers, Gerry

    Hi Adam,

Now the dust is settled thought to take a short break transcribing.

On page 27 of the Italy battle report there is a paragraph devoted to the Jewish Brigade. As the NIH was the first to support it when the brigade went into action, interesting material, including War Cabinet records has been accumulated.

Although not part of the topic, should you consider the material of interest I will put it together.

Also of interest, we were first to support the British equipped Italian Cremona Gruppo Brigade in action about the same time - haven't been able to find any record whether they kept a war diary - but able to accumulate some relevant items, including a map and photographs.

    Cheers,

The chap who must have had some Irish blood injected in him seventy years ago.

Hi, here is part one of the Dieppe raid. the suffix 1-1 to the war diary/documents indicates its position chronologically.

    Cheers, Gerry

PS Interesting to note that Queen Emma was she who transports the bulk of the NIH personnel eastwards from Algiers.
