We would love to get some input on the indie game we are making. Take a look and tell us what you think.

Bunker: Battle for Normandy is an MMO (massively multiplayer online) based game, set in World War II, European Theater.

    It is late June 1944.

Despite creating a unified beachhead, the battle for Normandy is very much in doubt. Allied forces move inland against mounting resistance, into terrain the assault troops have not been trained for. American Paratroopers are scattered across marshes and farmland, roads lead to deadly German ambushes, and the days and nights are filled with the sound of distant artillery.

If you fight for the Allies, you are an American soldier from an Infantry Division, fighting beside others who got separated from their units. Every man is needed at the front, there is no time to sort things out. Your battle for Normandy begins here.

If you fight for the Axis, you are a German soldier from an Infantry Division, one of the last survivors of your unit that guarded the beaches, now rallied to fight alongside reinforcements as they arrive. There is no time to sort things out. The Allies are advancing and you must do everything you can to throw them back into the sea.

I am not normally one to say this but could you make it that the British and Commonwealth Forces are involved?? It would be som much more interesting and given that a lot of tough fighting took place around Caen it would make for a good campaign!

Gotthard. I think thats doable as long as the geometry for the character doesnt have to change much. If this (link below) is normally what a british soldier looked like then I think thats definately doable. We somewhat have to limit ourselves though, and make the game small scope for right now. Although we definately want to give players a wide range of choices for their characters. Its basically only two of us working on Bunker right now. ;)

This would fit if this is a typical British soldier.

Marcus. Yes, I did those concepts, I am really glad you like them!

Right now we are working on a very very simple terrain/area/zone called "The Farm" or "The Farmhouse". I will most likely be a few miles in length and the plan so far is to have the Allies start at a landing point, near a barricade or glider. It will most likely be like they just landed, or entered the area. The Axis side will start in and around a deserted farmhouse.

Bunker I should have first said "WELL DONE" for the graphics and the idea. Forgive me if I jumped in with a suggestion rather than give credit where its due!!

That would be great if they were included, just from the point of view of originality of new campaigns that arent included in any other FPS!

    Fantastic progress though!

Out of interest, How much progress have you made? And when do you think it will be finished?

Gotthard. No worries :) Thanks! I posted here because I want to get ideas/comments like that so its totally fine. We are going over it now. Its basically me (3d art) and my buddy Jeff (artist/design) on the project. Jeff is pretty much the WW2 advisor working on all the game design, so hes thinking of a way to include the Brits/Canadians etc. Definately shoot out any ideas you have, and if it works with what we currently have, or it doesn't take 'too' much extra work, we can fit it in. Also, the view is 3rd person, but you are able to go first person like in a FPS, but its not your traditional FPS.

Heres the options when you enter the game (so far), when creating your character:

    Allied (American)
    Allied (British)
    Axis (German)

Also, we've added an 'Engineer' class, mostly for support. He will lay mines, and demolition, and possibly 'heal/repair' vehicles.

Marcus. So far we have it so you can load up the client, and connect to the server and walk/slide around. A base US and German soldier are in, but with no weapons and gear. We have a test terrain of "theFarm" thats not final, I am sure we will redo it about 5 times ;) Bunker has only been in production for about 2 months now so we are just getting all the assets done, and testing.

When we have a build with some more interesting things in it we will post a link to the client so you can hop in and check it out.

Recently we finished some starter helmets for the US classes. These are a first run on the textures, still a work-in-progress.

An medic armed like that makes it look more like a Vietnam era game than a WW2 one.

Understood. Medics will most likely only have a pistol. We are going to give Medics certain abilities to shield themselves and wounded allies so they won't need to use a weapon, and instead concentrate on more of a support role.

I was watching Band of Brothers (love it) the other day and I saw a few medics get shot, even while helping wounded. Especially in the game, since people WILL shoot at them just to get XP, we will want them to have some weapon at least, and a few skills to protect themselves.

Just a quick note from Band of Brothers. In epsiode 2 malarkey is trying to get what he thinks is a Luger from a dead german and they don't shoot him 'coz they think he's a medic. Then as he gets up they open fire???

Why would they do this, You shoot a medic or don't. Why would they wait for him to finish what he was doing before opening up on him?

Well to be honest if you saw an American running out to one of your men who was dieing in a field, would you fire at him with the possibility that he is a medic trying to save your mate?

It differs to be honest. For example i'm sure that on D-Day medics would have been killed by the German MG's raking the beaches or if in the Bocarge the Germans saw a head (without knowing it was a medic) they would shoot as it posed a threat. To the Germans at Brecourt Don Malarkey seemed like a medic. When they realised that he wasn't they fired at him.

Bunker this looks like a good game (I am one of the main gamers on the forums by the way) but just a point on the Sgt model.

I thought that in the main Sgt's didn't have stripes on the front of their helemts, they only had the horazontal stripe at the back and it was only Officers who had their ranks on the front.

    Correct if I am wrong.

Im not so sure that the German soldiers thought he was a medic. One of the

his fellow paratroopers back in the trench shouted to him "do you think your a

    f***ing medic?"

It would of been nice if he went up to try to help the German. But, he 'tried' to steal a Luger, so I am sure thats why the Germans openned up on him.

Either way, Medics will carry pistols mainly, we'll see how that works out ;)

Here is a render of the base US Rifleman and all his gear he will start with. The Thompson ammo is there because he can also use a Thompson, if he finds one, or possibly an MP40 (if they even used the enemies weapons?). this shot is pretty close to how he looks in-game currently. He now has a bald head to allow for Hair swaps when you create him.

btw, all the comments and chatter you guys have been giving is greatly appreciated!

PS, this is for Cpl Rootes too. About the helmets and symbols. That previous image was one of the first helmets I made, I've since removed the rank for the beginning US Rifleman.

Great pictures Bunker. By the way, did you intensionally have the M43 jacket on the soldier (identified by the chest pockets) the old M42 didn't have these chest pockets.

The models are looking great Bunker. The only thing I would suggest is if possible you might want to consider increasing the size of the M1 helmet a little bit.

I am still unsure about how this game works, but once its done it will be one hell of a game...Is it going to be free? Or are you going to have to pay to play?

For the jacket I just had some ref images from somewhere. Or, that soldier had a friend that was a supply officer ;) We can have a few styles of jackets, mostly just texture swaps. I am sure there are going to be tons of things like this I goof up on, thanks for pointing it out.

I hear ya on the helmet, I can definately make the side a bit bigger. I was wondering if it was kinda small. I also need chin straps on them hanging down.

Once I am able to host a server you guys are welcome to hop in and playtest. The game will be free unless it really works out to be 'something', which with the small team thats highly doubtful, but it should be fun.

So far the progress with Bunker has been slow. I have terrain in, some roads, some Hedgerows, grasses, and a few other props. For characters I have a base US Rifleman in, and a German soldier thats basically a texture change from the US soldier. I am currently working on the gear for the German Rifleman. Combat so far is nonexistant beyond an enemy spotting you, running up to you and doing nasty damage, then you die, and you return to your spawn. I am not only doing the art, but the animations as well, which takes a lot of time. A Tiger and a Sherman are modeled but untextured, and you can 'swap' into either and slowly plod around...but vehicles are another story. ;)

The plan for the game is basically an MMO (massively multiplayer online game). You will have to Zone into different areas, which brings up a load screen as you 'zone'.
