My grandfather Ernest crossley was shown in 1939 census of halifaH Yorkshire as being in an ARP rescue party. I know nothing about the role or much about him. I'm looking for details of his job and hopefully a picture. Any suggestions on where to look.
Theres 1 or 2 links here that might explain what he was up to - ARP rescue party - Google Search TD The TNA also has a large selection of documents - Search results: arp rescue party | The National Archives
Thanks for your reply. Were the ARP rescue partys members photographed. Is there any way of finding out why he wouldn't have been enlisted as he was approx 36 and a labourer

I wouldnt know if they were photographed or not - I cant see a reason why they should as they generally all knew each other and worked locally. I would suggest searching for a local historical society or similar to see what they may hold, try the library or Council Offices as they may hold archives TD
