Does anybody have the War DIary or is in a postion to say what the 9th Borders were doing in November and December 1943. I believe that they were somewhere in the Chin Hills in Burma.

    thanks

Hi Daz, you're right, at that time 9th Border was indeed in Chin Hills. During November it joined 17th Indian Division, crossing the border between India and Burma on 11th November 1943. During December battalion was based mostly on Kennedy Peak where they celebrated Christmas of that year. Some detail about this period in unit history you can find in Cooper's book "B Company".

According the book there wasn't to much fighting done by battalion during this period as it was mostly based far from the frontline. What does it mention is that 6 members of the Commando Platoon was ambushed and killed by Japanese and that No12 Platoon of B Company made diversionary attack in the area of MS 22 (also known as Hill 52) but seems without losses. Book doesn't give exact dates for this actions but that happens before second week of December when 9th Border moved on Kennedy Peak. Battalion during second part of November spent time in training and patrolling (but far from enemy).
