This is incorrect - it is S G KIRKMAN, Irish Guard. # 871776 279570 (number supplied by the Irish Guards website). Stanley George Kirkman, Guardsman. Formerly of Knottingham, lived in London after the war until he died. We believe he was captured in Italy. He was definitely at Stalag 357 as of August 8, 1944, as he wrote a very touching letter to his fiancé, my grandmother, from the Stalag - one of the few moments of his time at war. He would not speak much of his time at that camp, but I know it haunted him his entire life and ultimately led to his request to my grandmother that she never "put him away" when he got old or if he ever went "batty." He took his own life in November 1980 to prevent my grandmother from having to honor that request.
