Hi. I have just registered with WW2Talk. I am looking for any information on my late father, who was with 6 btn Gordons in Italy. He fought in Salerno and Anzio before moving onto British Increment V1 us corps?? I have his army records, which I will post soon. According to his records, he was posted to x(4) att 'D' BLU. CM7? Could anyone please start me off.
    Many Thanks

    Hello and welcome

His unit has a war diary for that period:

WO 169/10216 6 Gordon Highlanders 1943 July- Dec.

The 6th battalion Gordons were the junior battalion in 2nd bde of 1st Inf Division and fought in North Africa with the British 1st Army under Lt.Gen. Kenneth Anderson ....
I am not so sure they fought at Salerno as I believe they landed in Italy around the January '44 just before landing at Anzio with the US VI Corps towards the end of January and they stayed with them to the breakout when they went up - with I think 5th Div. -the coast as the rest went East to Valmentone but then turned left to try and sneak into Rome...they finished the war in Palestine

the X(Vi) is - I think a transfer or re-grading category - can't remember - but his service records can clarify that - if you can scan the relevant pages - we might be able to assist further
    Cheers

    Hello everybody,

Does anyone have the missing men file for 6 Gordon Highlanders? I am trying to find out who was taken prisoner on the Gothic Line on 11 December 1944 (1 Officer and 10 men, according to their war diary). Alternatively, the officer may be named in the War Diary Appendix,

    Thanks,

    Vitellino
