With unknown mates. A Commando beret?

Currently I am trying to find out if my Granddad was Royal Marine Base Division or if he was possibly attached to a Commando Unit at some point. My reason for wondering about this is because of family stories that relate that he was in Burma. However, his Service Record is a bit scant on detail and seems to imply that he was only in Ceylon. In this photo I cannot help but wonder if that isn't a Commando Beret he is pictured with.
