Many Great War veterans are now serving with the regiment in Libya side by side with the younger generation of their countrymen, and are living up to the traditions of the regiment through gruelling Western Desert battles. The air crew of an American Boston III bomber waiting for the plane to be loaded before setting out on a daring daylight attack on enemy occupied territory. The Boston III, with its 1,500 h.p. 'Twin Wasp' engines, has a speed of about 325 m.p.h. Lieut-General Herbert Lumsden, D.S.O., M.C., Commander of the British 10th Corps in the western Desert. Britain's silent air armada: A concentration of troop-carrying gliders prepare for the take-off. British soldiers are being trained by pilots of the R.A.F. to fly these planes which transport airborne troops in the Allied offensive. Landing craft - one containing a Bren-carrier - which took part in the biggest Allied Combined Operations' assault on German defences at Dieppe on August 19, 1942. On minesweeping patrol: A former English fishermen [sic], wearing a lifesaving belt, used by all Allied seamen. An historic picture of Mr. Churchill, Prime Minister of Great Britain, and M. Stalin, President of the U.S.S.R., taken at Moscow during their recent Kremlin talks. American-built 'General Grant' tanks line up before going into action in the Western Desert.
