Heinsberg Cartoon.

The 7th/9th Royal Scots retained the use of the rucksack when we ceased our Mountain Warfare role. This show we put it to good use as we left Heinsberg. Note the picks and shovels which we carried in preference to using entrenching tools. Digging-in was a necessary aspect of our defence and always we were responsible for our own all-round defence and no one else. See 'Carriage of Personal Clothing and Equipment' Standing Order reproduced else where in my section of the Gallery. The cartoon was drawn by the Battalion Intelligence Section Sergeant Pat Crosby.
