Covenanter tanks of the 2nd (Armoured) Irish Guards, Guards Armoured Division, Southern Command, 3 March 1942; IWM H 17569

Object description: Covenanter tanks of the 2nd (Armoured) Irish Guards, Guards Armoured Division, and their crews ready for inspection, Southern Command, 3 March 1942. 'Ulster', in the foreground, was in the HQ Squadron. Its driver was the Regimental Sergeant Major (standing left). Note the fibre 'non-crash' helmets, leather waistcoats and webbing sets specifically designed for tank crews - these items proved unpopular and shortlived.
