Now in France for a holiday, staying with my Daughter and Son-in-Law in the Aveyron. Weather excellent and enjoying a leisurely life,

Yes, the estimated of 50 Germans occupying the Garrison HQ was well off the mark. We only attacked with three rifle companies as one was seconded to doo duties in evacuating civilians and our own wounded. We had just about 340 men, so it was a fierce battle against about 600 men well placed in a heavily concreted defended position.

What had not been allowed or by our Intelligence men was it was perfectly proper tactics for the Germans when they were being overrun in the centre and peripheral areas for those Germans that were able to fall back on their HQ to help defend it.

Sheer tenacity, guts and courage of the Royal Scots won the day!
