Great photo. Do you know the date and source?

A recently acquired photograph album that once belonged to Edward Jones, of Tyn Ddol, Gellilydan, Merioneth. Edward seems to have spent his summer holidays touring Europe on his motorbike. He seems to have visited several WW2 battlefields including Normandy, Arnhem, Salerno and Monte Cassino.

Thanks for the quick response. Interesting blend of wooden crosses and stone headstones, hence I wondered what the date was.

By the way did you bid on some maps of the Arakan recently on eBay? If I remember correctly I think you collect them?

      All the best

      Tony,
yes, I bid on the maps, 1:25,000 maps are always worth having. There was one of the Buthidaung Tunnels and another of the Admin Box area. Is the Arakan a special interest of yours?

      Simon

      Hi Simon
I bid too but missed out. My main interest was getting a copy to aid some research rather than owning it for a collection - if you see my thinking. However the two you mention were very interesting and afterwards I kicked myself that I didn't go higher as they were not expensive. But that is auctions for you!! The Arakan is not my main area of interest - Imphal is - but I have a couple of medal sets of persons who fought there and I have researched some units who fought there from 5th and 7th Indian Divs. It is generally 'under-researched', particularly if you exclude the Admin Box and Tunnels battles. All the best Tony

I have copies of both the maps and generally do not bid on maps that I already have, unless they are annotated in some significant way. The same seller sold some other maps recently and I didn't bid on the maps that I already had. The ones that I left sold for around £15 each and were bought by an ebay dealer called World War Tools who immediately relisted them at £45+ each.

I am happy to let you have copies of any maps that you need for your research.

      Simon.

Hi Simon Yes, I would be really interested in copies of the two maps that cover the Buthidaung area, the Tunnels and also the Admin Box area . I'd be more than happy to meet the costs of copying, posting etc. I'll start a conversation to take thus further.
      Many thanks
      Tony
