      6-9 Jul 44 Move from Morpeth to Livermere Camp near Bury St Edmunds and are immediately ordered to move to Pembroke Dock.

      11 Jul 44 arrive at Llanion Barracks, Pembroke Dock.

      “Owing to the heavy casualties incurred by the other battalions the War Office decided to disband the 8th Battalion at the moment when they were due to embark for Normandy. The Battalion, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel C. T. Mitford-Slade, had reached a high state of efficiency after long training. Most of the personnel were drafted to the 2nd and 12th Battalions, for which they proved most valuable and timely reinforcements.”​

      5 Aug 44 Draft of 7 Officers and 200 ORs consisting of A Coy and part of SP Coy to 54 RHU [Reinforcement Holding Unit], Conyboro Camp, Cooksbridge, Sussex.
      8 Aug 44 Draft of 7 Officers and 200 ORs consisting of C Coy and part of SP Coy to 40 RHU, Camp 33, Rushmoor Camp, Aldershot.
      11 Aug 44 Draft of 11 Officers and 200 ORs consisting of B Coy and part of SP Coy to 40 RHU, Camp 33, Rushmoor Camp, Aldershot.

      16-17 Sep 44 Move to Freckenham Camp, near Bury St Edmunds. Here the Battalion takes on new role of retraining wounded personnel. Much movement of officers and men in and out of the Battalion continues over the next three months. Battalion is now in 35th Tank Brigade.

      Nov 44 “8 KRRC which remains a War Office Reserve Unit under command HQ 35th Tank Brigade will be available to provide reinforcements for and receive and retrain return[ed] wounded from similar units of 21 Army Group.”
