8th Royal Scots. A Sergeant looking after his Platoon, January 1945.

Note the insignia of the Hunting Stuart tartan square worn by Royal Scots Battalions. Immediately underneath is the 15 (Scottish) Division sign of the 'Lion rampant' with a red strip beneath it to denote 'infantry'. The foot-slogging infantry receiving a welcome issue of socks.

3 types of tin-lid on display.
2 of those I know were still being worn in 1986.

Photographs have that wonderful interest for historians in the unwitting information they provide. I was just showing a scene of a Sergeant issuing socks . . . but it also discloses for those interested three types of tin-lids being worn in January 1945!

I can imagine what they are saying to him, he's grinning & handing out socks for the camera & the lads are giving him all sorts of abuse that he can't answer as he has to keeping smiling.
