I ran across a story in a Canadian regimental history about someone winning a Humber armoured car in a craps game. It always makes me think of Crapgame from Kelly's Heroes.

I noticed Guy Gibson was driving an Alvis. I thought the radiator cap was a Bugatti Dancing Elephant at first. Did he really have one?



Anyone know what Ian Mcshane was so mad at Robert Shaw after he got shot down and didn't want to ride with him?

Oh, I made a mistake. I assumed Michael Caine's character was Gibson because of his black dog with him on the base. Sorry about that.

 

No worries! Tony Iveson went from Battle of Britain pilot to 617 Lancaster Pilot so it could have happened!

 

Douglas Bader owned Alvis's post-war and an MG TA before and during the BOB. There are images of it on the internet.

That particular Alvis looks like it survives-

As an aside I came across this anecdote of Dowding's role in the movie in Robert Wright's book on him that I recently read. Park's support throughout the battle obviously meant a great deal to him. Thought it migh be of interest.
