Couple of surprise finds when browsing online. I've previous books by both authors and they both do a good job of looking at early war subject. Particularly looking forward to Foyne's book as it does make use of German records to look at the actual impact of Bomber Command's efforts.
Sooooo... the Ontario Regiment Museum still has this at what I think is standard price instead of the inflated prices you'll find on amazon or abebooks. I did not need this because I've read a library copy buuuuuuut I succumbed. (The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps: An Illustrated History)
I have an extra copy of the book "Autumn Gale, Herbststurm", written by Jack Didden and Maarten Swarts. Anyone interested in buying the book may contact me per PM. The book is in pristine condition; price € 105,00 (excl. postage).
It won't be in my hands for a week or three (unless international mail magically rights itself), but I've long wanted a nice first edition of this. The full text is online, but I simply can't read a full-length book on a screen, I seem to lose focus too easily. It's probably obvious, but it's a famous account of the partition of India. The author, incidentally, edited the published version of Wavell's diaries from his time as Viceroy.
That is a great find! would it be possible to get a picture of the contents page? I am curious as to the scope of what it covers.
Hi Orwell1984, Grateful for your views on Hermann Goring Pz Div book especially how much detail there is on its fighting in Italy in the autumn of 1943 - Salerno and onwards. My finger has been hovering over the "purchase" button for a while now but a lot of money to pay if there isn't much in there on my particular interest. Regards Tom
I too have been hovering over the purchase button and would appreciate an idea of the quality and usefulness of the book.
Okay sorry for the delay but here's my quick look over for the book/ Chapter six is on Sicily and is 27 pages. Chapter Seven is Italy 1943 and goes from page129 to 164. Chapter 8 is Anzion 164-187 Looks like he's done some primary research in the NARA rolls as well as into the German language material (number of unpubished memoirs cited ). I'd say it looks like the English book to beat if you have interest in the subject.
Couple more new releases: Sea of Blood has been getting some excellent early reviews so I'm looking forward to reading it. The book on the Marblehead adds more to another early episode in the Pacific War
Just a note for anybody with an interest: this book is superb. The main reason for that being that it's dense with material and doesn't pretend that anybody other that soldiers and those with the required military lexicon would want to read it. I've only been through the Korean War section, but there's tons of detail about the various engagements, right down to extracts from logs. It's only a softcover and you need a map to follow if you aren't already intimate with the battlefields.
Orwell1984 refers in Post 1396 above to USS Marblehead and a new member Domobran7 has added the following passage about her: From: Pacific War 9 – Japanese Conquest of Indonesia There are three others threads here that appear on USS Marblehead. Plus: USS Marblehead (CL-12) - Wikipedia
In Cornwall for a couple of days and decided to visit Mevagissey as had never been there before. Village pretty and included a rather good secondhand bookshop (Hurley Books) where I found Nick Neale’s ‘Ghost Bombers’. Not a subject I’m particularly interested in but as Nick helped me with my book and it was only going for a tenner I had to buy it. Result.
