Lots of overnight snow on my 640 foot above sea level Yorkshire hill. Freezing too. But the sun is shining brightly and I am off out to enjoy it. I went out this morning, only a mile down the road but there was not a sign of snow and people looked at my car with all its snow firmly frozen onto it. Mike.
It was 81 F (27.2 C) degrees here (central Alabama) New Year's Day. 20 hours later it was 25 F (-3.8 C). Snow flurries during the night, with a very light dusting that was melted by 0800. It has not snowed significantly here in a few years. We usually have measureable snow every 3-4 years and it is not uncommon for it to melt the same day it falls. Friends in north Alabama and central 10erC (190 & 250 miles away) are sending photos of 6-8 inches of snow that fell today. My daughter, who was going to drive back to Baltimore in the morning has had to postpone her return to college because the interstates in east 10erC, western Nawth Cahlina, West-by-God Virginia, Old Virginny, and the Land of Mary are closed. The first two weeks of class were supposed to be remote anyway, so it may not be the end of the world for her if she is delayed getting back.
we got 2 inches more snow during the day but that still means only under a foot in total, so less than a half of what you got. Poor us.
Hello, not really. Here in southern Finland, even a foot of snow a day is rare. IIRC has happened two - three times this millennium and a couple of times in my childhood, maybe a couple times in the 70s. Here in the south the maximum depth of snow is rarely over 32 inches, even in the north the record is about 75 inches. Of course in snowdrifts it can be much more. During the last night we got a inch or two more snow, now about 19 inches of snow. And still snowing lightly.
No snow .. . but the Dutch coast was hit by a storm today: The Oranjemolen at Flushing Several Sea Weirs have been closed today to keep out the storm tide, the rising seawater which is pushed against the coast by the northwestern storm. One of them the 'Oosterschelde-kering'. Hamburg the Fischmarkt today ... no sea weir ...
Our "trench" system is beginning to form. Someone had built a snowman alongside my today's walking route.
Hello the night before last and yesterday there was again a blizzard, more snow came in total of 20 cm / 8 inches. Measured, the amount of snow did not increase as much because the new snow was wetter and heavier and compressed the old, more powdery frosty snow. So now about 60 cm / 23.5 inches of snow - a photo of our backyard on the night before last, around midnight, - a photo of our backyard yesterday at about 10.30 AM
After a year of absence due to Covid, the annual National Headwind Cycling Contest was successfully held yesterday in the Dutch Province of Zeeland. 8,5 km on a regular bicycle without gears
