I prefer to watch football, but would rather play baseball. Also, baseball never mangled my knee like football did and I never felt like i had been beaten with a 2x4 after a baseball game - even a double-header. If you're at baseball game, you have to pay attention to the game, especially when seated low along the baselines or you could be picking up teeth off the concrete. I'm a Southern boy, but enjoy hockey and wished I could have played it crouched in the net.
No Mother's Pride in North America? The object pictured is referred to as a sandwich in the latest episode.
Had to look up Mother's Pride. Haven't seen any in the US. They used to be called a hero or a wedge in New York when I was growing up. "Sub" seems to have become the generic term for a big, long sandwich now Submarine sandwich - Wikipedia
Mother's Pride can make a classic chip butty and ideal after drinking a lot of beer. Supermarket sandwiches are made with the same thickness of bread, only crust at the edges and awful stuff. As Elizabeth David said, French bakery is all about the crust, English bakery is about the crumb. A "sub" seems to be in another dimension.
I think this video might help the interested Limeys here better understand Hope. She's been somewhat frequent theme when SEC Shorts want to gig Jawja. Dave is right about Mother's Pride. I've never heard of it either.
To my amazement a bakery where I live has the nerve to sell a sourdough loaf for £5. I've never tried it, since I make my own bread, and dislike sourdough, but that is a ridiculous sum. People queue for it. There is also a "sub" shop in town, again, never tried. Sourdough loaves do have an excellent crumb, and makes good toast, but not for me. A kilo of strong flour can usually be bought here for a £1, making two loaves. However, gas prices are doubling, unfortunately.
National Championship Game is tomorrow night for College/University teams. Look at the size of these monsters. And remember these are collage players, not pros. The biggest players are the offensive linemen (OL) and they still average 5.3 seconds in the 40 yard dash. Other positions are appreciably faster, such as wide receivers. 2021 Football Roster - University of Georgia Athletics 2021 Football Roster - University of Alabama Athletics
It's because the sandwiches are enormous ! As a matter of interest, could an ordinary member of the public go to a University ground and buy a ticket to watch the match, or do you have to be a student ? How much would it cost ? In the UK there is a late night review on the BBC on which the experts are two retired players, Jason Bell and Osi Umenyiora.
I'm from Georgia but I've always liked neighboring Alabama better. The Georgia coach is a nut who has to designate an assistant coach to hold on to his belt to keep him from running onto the field, which is a penalty. Meet UGA’s ‘get-back’ coach and find out his primary role with the Dogs Georgia still has the best mascot in the country though.
There are blocks of tickets reserved for students at reasonable prices but most are sold to the public. In Georgia the face values are $200-$400 a ticket but there are all types of so called contributions required to booster clubs before people are allowed to apply to actually buy one, with no guarantee of getting one. Big business around here.
Thanks. A Premier League football ticket should be less than £40, five leagues below can be £25, which is way overpriced, but whether you would be able to get a ticket for any of the top teams would be doubtful, without some friendly help from a long term supporter. Lending of season tickets used to be fairly common ( perhaps for some consideration ) but current restrictions might mean that is impossible. Rugby Union is supposed to be more family friendly than football and on a quick look about the same price as a premier league ticket, but I don't really know.
He was the DC at Bama for 8-10 years, waiting on Mark Richt to get fired or retire. He was, uh, exuberant on the Bama side, too. His parents' families live around here and I have some friends that went to school with them a long ago. Tickets are rip here. They go on sale at places like TicketMaster and other ticket resale sites buy them using automated means, then inflate the price and offers them for sale on their site. It's an obscene example of ticket scalping by electronic means. It is against the law in some areas to stand outside a stadium and sell tickets for greater than face value, but large corps can do it digitally and it is okay.
According to The Sun newspaper the 2021-22 season ticket price for 19 home games to watch Arsenal was a huge £891 for the cheapest season ticket; for Wolves it would be £549. Top league is the Premier League, then the Championship ( silly names, I know ), League one, League two, National League. A National League season ticket ( expensive, north London ) is £384 for 24 games. Much cheaper at other National League clubs. At the ninth level a season ticket would be about £95, again for 24 games. Most players are part-time below the National League. The FA Cup involves all leagues and a team from Tier 6 has just won through many rounds to be given a home FA Cup tie against a Premier League club. This will bring them large sums of money, much needed by many football clubs. Games between professional players from different leagues or tiers in the FA Cup can be entertaining and are shown on free-to-air television stations.
He was just meditating. Meanwhile, it might snow in Buffalo on Saturday night. Always interesting, to a clueless onlooker of highlights of matches, when they play in the snow.
