The lack of an online payment option makes it even worse if you are based overseas. Where I live, only one bank (which I had to open an account with) does foreign checks via another major bank. Additional processing, conversion, and printing fees on top of the application fee. Nothing like the simple process and cheap process to get birth or death certs.

Someone I'm in contact with has just received her Dad's Service Documents which included the B103. Received were:
B200d, W3040, B103 and Notice of impending Release.

Do you happen to know if it was around a 16-month turn around from application to receipt?

You've managed a good haul there.

Could be hope that earlier reports were incorrect.

Re my Post #243, it would seem that what was received was the B103-I not the B103-II. Markh73 - what did you get.

Ive got the B103 I. What additional information does the B103 II contain? I can work out what units he was attached to and dates.

Sorry think I've got confused. The B103 I've got is in two pages. What I thought was the B103-II actually says 'B103-II to be gummed here if required' so not actually the ref of page 2.

Well I have very good news and am delighted to say I received the missing Service and Casualty form today. Not only that but they have re-copied and sent all the forms again - and they are of a far superior quality - images rather than b/w text so everything is much clearer and more legible.

Thoroughly worthwhile to chase that missing B103 (thank you for the advice 4jonboy to do this). And it has also meant that we have received his exemplary discharge testimonial which I found very moving, especially today, and because I know it will mean so much to my husband.

The file contains his Attestation form (Army Form E531) Army Form B102, Service And Casualty Form B103, Statement of Services Army form B200B, National Service Acts medical questionaire, Report of Medical Exam Army Form W3149, and Notification of Release form.

I have a number of applications I made in 2020 which haven't arrived yet. In the last few weeks, though, I've received a few applications I made in 2021. Perhaps to avoid cheques expiring??

Sure hope so! I've just been advised by my bank (the very last to issue International Bank Cheques here in Australia), that they will cancel this service as of January 1, 2022. Given the time it's taking for mail to arrive here, my cheque may be on its way back having expired, or it may have been cashed and my application is currently being processed.

I did enquire if my cheque had made it past the post in time, unfortunately, the department that is linked on the letter can't confirm - they simply "get the requests and churn 'em out" so to speak, Portsmouth does the heavy lifting. I'll have to give them a call instead, although maybe I'll just take my chances and see what transpires . . .

Did three trial applications using the new online RAF enquiry and credit/debit card system

All died in service so no need to attach certificate of death - asks for date of birth (at least year) so did two with full dob and one with just year.

Applied on line 8th Nov 2021

The two with full dob email acknowledged and given ref number 9th Nov 2021
One with just year for dob email acknowledged and given ref number 12th Nov 2021

Email advised estimated time to complete 6 weeks and asked if email or post service required. I asked for email for all

Service record for one with just year of birth returned today 25th Nov 2021 as password protected pdf.

Read that delivery timescale Army and Navy researchers and weep - bodes well when rolled out to the other Disclosures.

Will post when the remaining two are emailed.

I am now looking to apply for my uncle Stanley service record. So what can I expect to get ? I know every case is difference but what did you receive from the MOD ?

Rather depends on the service he served in.

For RAF it is one doublesided A3 ish sheet (Form 543) that summarises documents that used to exist in the service file but have since been destroyed in accordance with parliament instructions on record keeping after the person ceases to be effective.

For Army there is extensive detail in the posts on this thread.
