Does anyone have a copy of Air 28/879 ORB RAF Waddington March 1937 to December 1942.

I am trying to find information on 61Sqn C Flight (Training) which I believe was conducted there from March to October 1942.

    Hi Andrew,

Do you have St Eval for July and August 1942.

Sorry Ken, I should have added that most of mine are linked to Bomber Command, especially No.5 Group.

Thinking about it, I know someone who might be able to help. Leave it with me and I'll see what I can do. Cheers, Andrew

No 61 Squadron was detached from Syerston to St Eval for short period from 5 May 1942 as a result of Portal pressurising Harris to transfer some BC squadrons to Coastal Command. The call for assistance from Coastal Command was to fill the gap in the aircraft shortfall cause by a delay in the supply of Liberators to Coastal Command. At the time, during the Battle of the Atlantic, the Western Allies were finding it difficult to cope with the Kreigsmarine submarine offensive against Allied shipping.

Harris selected the squadrons that in his opinion would not weaken his bomber force and some ended up such as the Hampden equipped No 144 Squadron as being permanent. Other choice squadrons, such as No 61,equipped with Lancasters Marks 1 and 111, he agreed to them being detached on a temporary basis.
