Hi, I might be posting this in completely the wrong place however I have recently discovered that my Great Uncle in March 1944 was in A Company of the Royal Scots Fusiliers, he was Corporal Fred Hardman. He was killed on the 26th June 1944 in the Battle of Epsom and I would love to speak to anyone or their families whose relative might have served with him. The names of the people who were in A Company in March 1944 are: Corporal McMillan Fusilier Grant Fusilier Farrar Corporal McKie Fusilier Quinn Fusilier Stephenson Fusilier Graham Fusilier White Fusilier Herriott Fusilier Reilly Fusilier Barnett Fusilier Taylor. Completely understand that its a long shot but nothing ventured nothing gained. Many thanks for taking the time to read this, Dawn
Hi Dawn - something additional for you to consider. There is a 1944 war diary for 6 RSF at the national archives in London. The ref details are: WO 171/1364 6 Royal Scots Fusiliers 1944 Jan.- Dec. If you would like me to copy it for you just click the red link below for more details. Cheers Andy
My late father was with the 6th Battalion RSF and was badly wounded at St Mauvieu 26th June1944. Does anybody have copies of the relevant unit war diaries or other relevant documents? WO 171/1364 6 Royal Scots Fusiliers 1944 Jan.- Dec. Bob Galloway
That diary contains over 700 various pages inc appendices. I think it's the thickest 1944 Infantry diary in the WO 171 series iirc.
Hi Bob I don't know how far you got with your search but the history of the 6RSF 1939-45 by Kemp covers 26th June. It reads like a pretty nasty situation to have been in. I have used this reference quite a lot in my own research of 6RSF. Hope that might be useful Keith
Keith, Bob Galloway has not been aboard since July 2019, so it might be best to send a Private Message to him. Assuming his email address remains valid. Dawn, the opening post author has not been here since 2014.
