Hello there I'm wondering if anyone could help.

My great grandfather Kenneth shepherd served with 10th battalion parachute regiment during ww2. He was wounded in italy( I believe shot ). I am currently waiting to receive his service records. I've had information from para data.

Where would I be able to see any casualty list detailing what happened to him.

As many from the war he didn't speak about it.

    Background information I have :
He attended kabrit/ramat David training school jump trained on course 32. He was transferred from the black watch / 51st highland division and probably saw action at El Alamein.
He is also not identified at Arnhem but most likely part of the sea tail.

Any information would be a great help.

    Aimee

The best source of information on anyone's service are the war diaries and regimental histories, in order to delve deeper you obviously need to know which units he was with and when. Unless you have other concrete information it is normally safer to await his official service records which should provide that information.

His records should show if he was hospitalised.

    Thank you for your reply.

It is indeed a long waiting list from the MOD for service records due to covid.

I just have to sit and wait it out

    Kind regards aimee

    Aimee,

There could be some options whilst you wait for the Army Record to arrive.

I note that the 10th Battalion Parachute Regiment existed for November 1942- September 1944 and the Nominal Roll refers to:
    From: https://friendsofthetenth.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Nominal-Roll-Jan-2020.pdf

I note the website of the 'Friends' has a strong Leicestershire connection, which matches your subject, so have you made contact with them?

Wiki refers to the 10th participating in:
From and note it refers to formation in 1942 originally: 10th Battalion, Parachute Regiment - Wikipedia

Wiki suggests in Operation Slapstick that German rearguard actions after the British sea landing at Taranto, as the paras advanced on foot. See: Operation Slapstick - Wikipedia

Two other Italian towns are named in this record: 10TH BATTALION THE PARACHUTE REGIMENT

There is one book on the 10th, published in 1965 and it appears only the Imperial War Museum - on a quick look - have a copy. See: The Tenth: a Record of Service of the 10th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, 1942-1945, and the 10th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment (T.A.) (County of London), 1947-1965; Compiled by Major R. Brammall

Hi there and thank you for your comment.
My mum has tried contacting Leicestershire but to no avail their phones just constantly ring.

I will definitely have a look at the book from the imperial war museum.

    Thank you for your help

If you are local to Leicestershire it might be worth checking their county library service if they have a copy.

Just tried the Friends of the 10th email, it did not bounce back automatically, so standby.

The Friends of the 10th email is working and I had a message back:
The email being: alec@friendsofthetenth.co.uk When visiting the Facebook site you see why the phone may not have been answered recently, Alec and others have been preparing an event that held yesterday!

I am about to reply and supply a link to this thread.
