I'm trying to find George William Balmer on 1939 register but he seems to have joined up at the start of WW2 underage (17). So it's likely he is training but I don't know what British regiment he was in before joining the British 14th Army in Burma. He's born in London in 1921 but Scottish by heritage, his father served in the King's Own Scottish Borders in WW1. He survived the war. Can anyone help please or point me in the right direction? I've tried Forces war records and Fold3. Thx Helen

What other details do you have for him?? sometimes for example if they were in the Medical Corps they continued after the war - any and all small details help to fill out the details

The reason for the above is that there is a G Balmer who was RAMC and a POW of the Japanese

    Rank: Pte
    Military Date: 1939-1945

Perhaps you could fill in a little more information - what information have you regarding his army service, parents names, date of death, location?

Helen - you do not need a service number to apply for his service records, but you will need a copy of his death certificate and a date of birth

Your original question was regarding the 1939 Register, what was his dob, was he the one who died in Salisbury in 1988? What were his parents/wife names?

Of course if he was born in 1921 and therefore less than a 100 years old he is unlikely to be there (hence other relations details), what sites are you looking at?

Yes, that's the correct George, he was born 5/11/1921 London. Parents George Balmer, Louisa Balmer (Humm) lived Edinburgh. He joined underage, 17 in 1939. His father deceased, mother working in service, unsure where he was brought up but alternative parental name Boustead.

What is the information you have to be certain he joined up in 1939, perhaps that is why he is not in the Register, can you post the photo?

We really need the service records to be certain about all this - for example I havent seen anywhere that mentions Burma except for the RAMC record, so how is it known he was in Burma??

Yes, have seen all that, also the service records for his father George (28167 KOSB), he was discharged in 1919 just before GW's birth. An address in Edinburgh is quoted for December 1919.

Research and family think that he joined up in 1939 underage at 17 yrs. This also backed up by not being with family on 39 register. Family say he was in Burma British 14th Army but campaign not until 1944. So trying to establish training establishment for early regiment. Struggling to upload photo but cap badge looks like Royal artillery.
